Metalclad History

The Metalclad story is one of success.  Established in 1933 by Ray Kemper, Metalclad Insulation Company, Inc. of Torrance, California was reorganized in 1967 by Lee Sweetser, Hank Trueblood and Russ Saunders.  The new Metalclad Insulation Corporation set its corporate sights on becoming the most able and versatile company of its kind.  These objectives were to be met through internal growth and planned acquisition of strong related companies with proven management teams.

With this strategy in mind, the firm’s management group expanded the corporation throughout the West by acquiring several well established insulation companies.  In the mid 80’s, the management group, reflecting economic times, set out to reduce overhead by consolidating all operations to the Southern California office.

Since its inception, Metalclad has pioneered and patented the manufacture and installation of metal-protected panel and pipe insulation systems.  The company has also designed and fabricated specialty insulation items for petrochemical, process and manufacturing, aircraft, marine, air pollution control, desalinization, noise control, nuclear and fossil fuel power systems.

In addition to its industrial and commercial insulation contracting operations, Metalclad has also been heavily involved in asbestos abatement since the remediation of asbestos was mandated by Federal law in 1973.
